Biology - Light, Life and Plant Cells (ENG)

Beskrivelse

There would be no life without light! Come and be fascinated by the world of light and biomolecules! In this course students learn about photosynthesis; the process by which plants, algae and cyanobacteria use solar energy to make sugar from water and carbon dioxide, releasing oxygen as a waste product. Life on Earth has depended on light throughout 4.5 billion years of evolution. The first organisms that carried out photosynthesis were cyanobacteria, which fossil record starts around 1.9 billion years ago.

In addition to learning about photosynthesis, students will use microscopes to examine the cells and structure of leaves. They will also extract chlorophyll from leaves, and we will discuss why plants are green. … finally, we will examine if that is always the case by experimenting with ultraviolet light.

- The course will be tought in English - You can also choose this course in Danish.
